A Team Realigned in Okinawa, and the Value of Connection
From November 19 to 22, 2025, WITIVE held a team workshop in Okinawa, Japan. The program was designed for a company entering a global expansion phase, aiming to strengthen collaboration and deepen relationships among team members. The theme of the workshop was “Beyond Collaboration, Toward Connection.”
Rather than a simple retreat, this was a meaningful opportunity to realign the organization, rebuild trust, and prepare for the year ahead.
1. A Smooth Workshop – Gaining as Much as We Prepared
Over the course of the four-day trip, everything went smoothly without a single incident. In the warm and relaxed atmosphere of Okinawa, team members reflected on the intense year they had gone through and took time to revisit how the company and teams are connected.
Through natural conversations and shared experiences, the team began to look in the same direction again, and the question “Why are we doing this together?” became a shared understanding rather than a slogan.
2. A Workshop with the Team and a Developer’s Future Wife
One of the most special aspects of this workshop was that the girlfriend of one of our developers – who everyone already sees as his future wife joined the trip.
Having someone who genuinely supports a team member travel with us created a warmer atmosphere and helped the team see each other from a more human perspective. This was more than just “bringing a plus-one” – it symbolized a culture where the team respects the entire life of each member, not just their role at work.
She blended into the team naturally, and everyone felt comfortable around her. It reminded us once again that understanding a member’s life and emotions is an essential part of real teamwork.
3. Meeting Our Friend Yuri in Okinawa and Sharing a Warm Evening
Reuniting with our local friend Yuri was one of the highlights of the workshop. With his guidance, the team visited a small local izakaya, where deep conversation flowed naturally. The talk moved beyond work into life, values, and personal stories.
This time together strengthened the bonds within the team more than any formal program could have done. We once again confirmed that “sharing food and stories with good people” is one of the most natural ways to build a strong organizational culture.
4. Exploring Okinawa’s Food – Energy for the Team Through Good Meals
From Okinawa soba and Agu pork dishes to fresh grilled fish and local home-style meals, sharing food became an organic form of team-building.
Gathering around the same table, team members swapped stories they had never had the chance to tell in the office. It was a time when colleagues began to feel less like “people I work with” and more like “people I walk alongside.”
5. Okinawa World Cave and Ojima Island – Deep Rest and Inspiration from Nature
Among the most memorable experiences of the workshop were the limestone cave exploration at Okinawa World and the visit to Ojima Island, known as the cat island.
The massive cave at Okinawa World is a record of nature formed over hundreds of thousands of years. Walking through endless stalactites and stalagmites, we were reminded that the small choices and efforts we make now can one day accumulate into something significant. Standing before such overwhelming nature, we felt how short human time is, yet also how meaningful it is to think carefully about the direction we choose.
Ojima Island, by contrast, offered a completely different kind of scenery. Known as a cat island, this small, quiet place is filled with slow winds and freely roaming cats. The freshly fried tempura, a local specialty of Ojima, left such an impression that many of us said, “We’re going to miss this when we go back to Korea.”
The “depth of time” we felt in the cave and the “calm stillness” we experienced on the island healed the team in different yet complementary ways, giving the entire workshop a stable rhythm.
6. Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and the Dolphin Show – A Brief but Complete Moment of Healing
At the world-famous Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, the sight of whale sharks and diverse marine life cleansed our minds in a quiet, powerful way. During the dolphin show, everyone – regardless of age or role – cheered together, forgetting about work and schedules for a brief moment.
The time spent there remains as a simple yet precious memory: “We had a genuinely good time together,” and that alone was more than enough.
7. Gently Wrapping Up 2025 and Looking Ahead to 2026
The year 2025 was one of both challenge and growth for WITIVE. In a rapidly changing environment with numerous projects underway, the team had to keep moving without much rest.
The Okinawa workshop allowed us to quietly unwind the tension of the year and to reflect, both individually and collectively, on the questions: “Why are we doing this?” and “What are we trying to build together?”
As a shared sentiment formed – “We made it this far because we were together,” and “2026 can be a year of even greater progress” – the team gained new energy and a clearer sense of direction.
